Clifton Alliance CC was formed in 1974 as an amalgamation of Clifton Hospital CC and Alliance CC. The origins of Clifton Hospital CC go back to 1867 and they were particularly successful in cup competitions played up to World War II. Alliance evolved in 1950 from Baptists CC who played in the York Saturday and Evening Leagues, winning both in 1966.
In 1975 the club joined the York & District Senior League and formed a second team who joined the league in 1976. The clubs junior team were founder members of the U16 League in 1976.
In 1993 the club bought its Shipton Road ground and in 1996 built a new pavilion with help form lottery funding which was also obtained two years later for new outdoor nets.
The club won the York & District Senior Cricket League Title in 1999, repeating the triumph in 2005, as well as being runners-up three times and winning the Indoor League Title. It has also won the Acomb Invitation six times, the Myers Burnell Cup twice and the Senior Charity Cup four times. Additionally the club reached the final of the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy in 2000, a competition involving the champions of all major Yorkshire leagues.
The second team won the Heworth Invitation Cup in 2000, the Frank Piercy Cup in 2004 and the Junior Charity Cup in 2005. The third team was formed in 1998 and admitted to the York Vale League being promoted twice since then. Since 1994 the club has also run a team in the Pilmour Evening League.
